We are accepting Documentary Videos for the 01st International Research Documentary Video Conference, which will take place at Nāgānanda International Institute for Buddhist Studies (NIIBS) from March 31, 2024. Researchers and scholars from across the disciplines will participate in this one-day conference that will be concentrating on International studies. The central theme for the above is ‘Research Landscape in the Digital Era’.
This conference aims to be more focused on the interconnections among South Asian countries in terms of labour, ideas, commodities, culture, religion, and performing practices. The world we live in is intertwined, with constant movements of products, services, capital, labour, information, and ideas. These movements have served as the foundation for the construction of global value chains. Hence this conference explores the interconnectedness of South Asians from pre-history to modern times.
Despite a history of ethnic, linguistic, and political fragmentation, the South Asia region (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Maldives, and Afghanistan) have been connected to each other from ancient times. This connectedness has created a shared past in terms of the socio-religious, cultural, political and economic spheres. Apart from the above these countries have a shared experience of colonialism, racialism and economic exploitation, all opposed to foreign bases and foreign intervention, all have embraced the concept of regional organization, albeit to varied degrees and with varied stances.
Hence, these countries have been trying to cooperate with each other after the decolonization. The importance of South Asian regional cooperation is seen in the endeavour it represents to create a cooperative South Asian solution to the region’s challenges. This policy seeks to change the collective regional status of these nations from one of dependence on the developed world to one of the equal partners with it, allowing the developing nations to show their strength. This provides them with crucial negotiation leverage in their discussions with the ‘North’.
Going along these lines of cooperation and collective status, this conference welcomes panels and papers that combine the approaches and knowledge from many different fields to examine the past and give those other fields a historical perspective. Connecting historical studies to disciplines like archaeology, ICT, fine arts, sociology, anthropology, political and others are also welcome.
The conference hopes to be able to encourage more research by generating new perspectives by exploring new as well as alternative and evolving research ideas and methods.

(A) GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
- Documentary Video should report original research.
- Documentary Videos that do not conform to the guidelines will be rejected.
(B) INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS
1) SUBMISSION
Soft copies of the following Documentary Videos are requested to be uploaded to irdvc.fhss.niibs2024@gmail.com.
Registration fees:
- Local presenters: 5,000 LKR
- Foreign Presenter: 30 USD
Short Documentary Videos on or before 01 March 2024.
2) EXTENDED ABSTRACT (Proposal)
- Video submissions should align with the overarching theme of the conference to ensure relevance and coherence in the program.
- The videos will have a maximum length of 10 minutes.
- The documentary must be original and no watermark of any kind should be on the film.
- All the research documentaries should clearly mention the objectives, research problem, significances, methodology, etc.

- Resolution: 1920 x 1080 pixels (Full HD)
- Aspect Ratio: 16:9 (widescreen)
- File Size Limit: 500 MB to 2 GB
- After recording, review your video recording for audio quality.
- Researchers may submit videos as individuals or as groups. Group submissions can name up to 5 contributors; however, one participant must be designated as the “primary contact.”
- Videos must not include the following: racist, sexist, or other offensive remarks, nudity or sexual content, promotion of drug use, underage drinking, or other illegal behaviour, violation of privacy laws of individuals or companies, any other offensive or inappropriate content.
- Researchers are responsible for ensuring that the production of their video does not violate any state, local, or national laws.
- Plagiarism is strictly prohibited and will result in immediate disqualification, and submissions must cite all outside sources used in the video.
- The official language of the conference is English. In cases where the original version of the video is in a different language, we require subtitles in English.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the three best documentary videos:
- For first place – 20,000 (Sri Lanka Rupees)
- For second place – 15,000 (Sri Lanka Rupees)
- For third place – 10,000 (Sri Lanka Rupees)

- The organizing committee is not in a position to provide participants with financial support.
- All participants are advised to seek funding through their respective institutions or other sources.
- The venue of the conference is the Nāgānanda International Institute for Buddhist Studies (NIIBS), Manelwatta, Bollagala, Kelaniya Sri Lanka
- The organizers advise the participants to make arrangements for accommodation in the close neighbourhood of the Institute or apply for limited accommodation within the Institute without any meals. (Institute may be able to support the participants to obtain set menu meal packets for a reasonable cost.)
