Bursar

Mr. I.D. Seneviratne was appointed as the Bursar of the Nāgānanda International Institute for Buddhist Studies (NIIBS) in 2026, bringing with him over 27 years of extensive professional experience in the Sri Lankan banking and financial services sector. His career reflects a strong background in banking operations, regulatory compliance, risk management, internal audit, financial crime prevention, and institutional governance.

He currently serves as a Senior Assistant Manager in the AML & Compliance Department of Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC, a position he has held since April 2023. In this role, he is responsible for ensuring compliance with Central Bank of Sri Lanka regulations, AML/CFT requirements, and other regulatory directives. He also contributes to compliance risk assessments, internal control frameworks, AML/CFT policy development, sanctions screening, regulatory reporting, and engagement with regulatory authorities.

Prior to his current position, Mr. Seneviratne served as an Assistant Manager in Central Clearing Operations from June 2018 to April 2023, where he was responsible for managing clearing operations, strengthening internal controls, supervising operational teams, and improving operational efficiency. From March 2010 to June 2018, he served as an Internal Auditor, conducting risk-based audits across branches, departments, and overseas operations, including operations in Bangladesh and the Maldives. His earlier experience in branch banking from 1998 to 2010 provided him with a strong foundation in banking operations, customer service, financial controls, and compliance.

Throughout his professional career, Mr. Seneviratne has conducted more than 150 audits covering branches, departments, and international operations. He has also been involved in fraud investigations, disciplinary inquiry panels, governance reviews, internal control assessments, and risk mitigation initiatives. In addition, he has contributed to professional training and awareness programmes relating to corporate governance, ethics, AML/CFT compliance, and regulatory requirements.

Mr. Seneviratne holds an MBA in Finance from Cardiff Metropolitan University, United Kingdom, awarded with Merit in 2024. He has also pursued professional studies in management and strategic areas through CIMA UK and holds qualifications in banking and finance from the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka. In addition, he holds the DISSCA qualification in Information Systems Security Control & Audit from CA Sri Lanka.
