The 3rd Biennial International Conference of the Indian Association for South Asian Studies (IASAS) 2023 organized by the Indian Association for South Asian Studies, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi in collaboration with the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of Nāgānanda International Institute for Buddhist Studies.

The 3rd Biennial International Conference of the Indian Association for South Asian Studies (IASAS) 2023 organized by the Indian Association for South Asian Studies, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India in collaboration with the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of Nāgānanda International Institute for Buddhist Studies (NIIBS) was successfully held on 24th and 25th July 2023 at the NIIBS premises.

The inauguration ceremony of the conference was honoured with the participation of Mr. Chamath de Silva, CEO of the NIIBS, Mr. Jagatha Sumathipala, Director of the NIIBS, Prof. P.B.Mandawala, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Prof. Rangamini Werawatta, Director, School of Information Communication Technology, Mr. Piyaratna Ranasinghe Arachchi, Registrar of the NIIBS, Dr. Ashutosh Kumar, President, Indian Association for South Asian Studies, (who delivered the keynote speech) and many scholars from India and Sri Lanka.

The fullest cooperation extended to complete the conference in which 85 research papers were submitted through 11 sessions and 04 papers were submitted in a plenary session by the Vice-Chancellor Ven. Dr. Bodagama Chandima Thero, Ven. Dr. Dampe Vijitharathana Thero, Acting Vice Chancellor and Dean of the Faculty of Buddhist Studies, Prof. P.B. Mandawala, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Science and Dr. Ashoka Karunarathne, Academic Consultant of FHSS, Dr. Hasantha Samarasinghe, Head of the Department, Department of Pali (FBS), Dr. Kalyani Ruwanpathirana, Head of the Counselling Psychotherapy Unit at NIIBS and Ven. Pasgoda Sumittha Thero (Lecturer of FHSS), Mr. Senaka Senavirathne, Head of the Department, Department of Applied Communication Media Technology, Mr. Neil Jayasinghe (Lecturer of FHSS), Mr. Kanishka Wijayarathna (Lecturer of FHSS), Ms. Najma Amath (Lecturer of FHSS), Ms. Ishari Dilmini (Lecturer of FHSS), and Assistant Registrar Ms. Bhagya Hettiarachchi, Mr. Sasinda Premakumara (AR of FBS/FGS), Ms. K.W.Anoma (CAA of FHSS) and all the academic Staff, Non-academic Staff and specially the students of the FHSS who conducted a colourful Cultural Show to make this conference a complete success was greatly appreciated and highly admired by all International and National scholars who participated in the programme.

NIIBS would like to extend its fullest gratitude to all delegates who have participated and spend their precious time for the IASAS conference on the 24th and 25th of July at NIIBS premises in Sri Lanka. The conference president Dr. Ashutosh Kumar, President, Indian Association for South Asian Studies, was kind enough to be present which allowed the FHSS to share its endeavors and efforts with him. Meanwhile, it gave endless pleasure and encouragement to all participants as well. It is an honor to state with gratitude that Dr. Ashutosh Kumar provided the faculty with immense opportunities to succeed. The faculty would like assure that his motivation will excel in the progress of lives of the faculty members.
